A Busy December.

So much has happened since our last Blog in October..

Award Winning Academy!
On Thursday 7th December, we went to the Balbriggan Town Awards, it was a fantastic evening with great entertainment from St. Patrick's Brass & Reed Pipe Band, Scoil Rince Cualann and our old college pal Andy Green who sang at the end of the night... We won an award for Best Presented New Business! Super thrilled that our new little academy was recognised for the little gem that it is :-) That of course is down to all of our fantastic students and parents who have supported us along the way these past few months, (and to Barra and my girls of course and everyone who helped babysit!)

We had our Christmas Party Open Evening on the last day of Term, and it was a lovely evening of chats, music, songs - just what we needed after a busy Term! There will be plenty of time for organising concerts this coming year, for now it was nice to get together, relax and say thank you to all. It was great for the students to meet each other properly, and hear what they had learned in the short time since they all started in September. Guitars and Fiddles managed a group performance of 'Jingle Bells' with no rehearsal - well done to all! Our Piano Accompanist Zena Palmer called in and we did a little rendition of 'The Christmas Song' on Violin & Piano.. Video to follow..

New Syllabus and New Tutors..
We welcomed our new Piano and Singing Tutor Liz Stears from Lusk, who joined us at the start of December. Next term we will also welcome new Tutors; Dave Flood, Mo Sheerin and Jonathon Collins who will bring their knowledge of different instruments and exam syllabi to the Academy. We are on the lookout for a Saxophone Tutor too! (anyone reading this know one, please get in touch, thanks!)

The lovely people at the Leinster School of Music & Drama sent us their new syllabus and it looks really great! A good chance to read through it all now over the holidays and get cracking on organising our courses for the new Term starting on 8th January! I'm delighted we can offer a variety of instruments, styles and exam syllabi all under the one roof.  All music is good music, once it's played well!

We will be running some new modules, and starting new Group Classes. We are taking expressions of interest for a String Band, a Rock Band, a Choral Group, a Wind and Percussion Group and mini-Folk Ensemble. Weekly or fortnightly group sessions will be of great benefit to One to One students, where they learn the different dynamic of playing in a group setting, and particularly for Piano students where they have an opportunity to refine their vocal skills as part of a choral group.

The New Year.. A Time for Reflection..
It has been a roller coaster this year; kids starting playschool, weddings, funerals, moving our old studio and home to starting our new venture only a few miles away from our new home. A very emotional time, this time of year especially is about reflecting on the year that was, and to take stock and prioritise for the year ahead. It's a time to think about those who are no longer with us, and have helped shape who we are, to feel gratitude and above all, be kind and sound to each other.

On that note - all of us here at Cadence Music Academy would like to wish you a very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2018!! Thank you again to everyone who has supported us on our musical journey so far. Peace and Love.
